Stretched between the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers, only from Camden, New Jersey, Philadelphia is the largest city in Pennsylvania and the sixth largest city in the United States.

History lurks behind every corner in Philadelphia. This is the birthplace of the United States and the nation with its initial capital from 1790 to 1800. In one of the great experiments of the British colonies, it was founded in 1682, by the English Quaker William Penn, of the proposed scheme as a country of tolerance and religious freedom. Many colonists flocked to escape prosecution. Penn named the city after the Greek word for "brotherly love".

Philadelphia on the main attractions are situated in the picturesque downtown Independence National Historical Park, including the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, and the Constitution Center, in honor of the U.S. Constitution.

Colonial Philadelphia was also the home of the great statesman Benjamin Franklin, the founder of the country's first hospital, library, fire department and the university. He is simply the favorite son of the city, with some fascinating exhibits for him.

In addition to the legendary historical sites, "Philly," as locals to find, also has a lively art scene, with a renowned orchestra, world-class museums and some fantastic restaurants. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is the crown jewel of the city, although Philadelphia is also the art house cinemas, forward Rejects galleries and traditional and avant-garde theater.

Over 100 multi-ethnic neighborhoods have a colorful urban environment, from the bustle of the Italian market to African-American festivals, from blues and jazz clubs to the traditional Amish community who produce and sell food in Reading Terminal Market.

Philadelphia is also the gateway for travel west into Pennsylvania Dutch Country, north to the ski resorts in the Pocono Mountains and southeast of the Delaware Peninsula and Atlantic Seaboard beaches.

By William Penn, a logical grid of streets Philadelphia is easy to navigate. The city is known as the center of the city. Main thoroughfares of Market Street, East and West Broad Street, north-south, take the central hub of the city hall and will be divided into four quadrants around City Hall.

Regions are the Parkway Museums, Convention Center, Washington Square and Rittenhouse Square. Old City and Society Hill / Waterfront are Philadelphia's oldest areas.
