Saalbach Hinterglemm Information
Introduction
Saalbach-Hinterglemm Austria is a great individual ski resorts, with more than 200 km (125 miles) of the most beautiful slopes intermediate targets you could imagine. The ski runs along one side of the Valley Glemm then the other, so that in a day you can easily complete the circuit.
At one end is the most important means of Saalbach, a classic Austrian village with onion-dome church, cobbled streets and a lively night scene. Midway along (about 4km/2.5 miles) is Hinterglemm, as well as charming, but smaller and more relaxed.
Together they provide a high, but surprisingly youthful spot, also in connection with Leogang, a detour from the main circuit with fantastic long slopes directly into the trees.

Where in the World?
Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the Austrian Alps, an easy drive from the city of Salzburg.
Hit the slopes
The season runs from early December until early April.
More than 90% of the area is rated intermediate or easy, so this is a place for the rental of ski through the magnificent tree-lined landscape mainly on southern slopes. It is not high, an increasing amount of snow keeps everything goes.
The ski circus, as it says is a joyful day, with lunch at one of the historic mountain restaurants. Otherwise, you can focus on one area - better skiers use Schattberg East, where the 4 km (2.5 miles) Nordabfaht is a fast, steep black with constantly changing conditions. The World Cup downhill on Zwölferkogel is pleasant - good skier can create their own fun on plenty of off-piste terrain.
Saalbach's nursery areas may be kitschy, but Hinterglemm's is to the north. There are two terrain parks, and the whole place works well for snowboarders.
In addition to the slopes
Saalbach is not really a place to visit if you do not ski, or if you wish, that many other activities. There are the usual things - sledding, bowling, sleigh rides - and many of the larger hotels have pools and spas.
Family fun
Nine ski schools operate here, with lessons from the age of four. Nurseries are limited to hotels, but can be excellent - such as the one at the Hotel Theresa (see accommodation below). Hinterglemm has an indoor pool, and many of the larger hotels have swimming pools and game rooms.
Retail Therapy
This is not a place for shopping. There are a handful of ski shops and boutiques in the pedestrian zone Saalbach High Street, but the prices are usually sharper in less busy-Hinterglemm. If you are for the local color, you will find chocolates, knitwear and wood carvings.
Apres Ski
Classic Austrian après-ski is on offer with beer, brandy and dancing in ski boots. As the lifts close Hinterhagalm attempt on the slopes above Saalbach, or farmer's Skialm (Oberdorf 232) and the outdoor bar at the Hotel Zur village blacksmith (Dorfstrasse 129), both at the bottom of the slopes. The Goasstall (Reiterkogelweg 491) Hinterglemm is also about fun.
At night there is plenty of choice until late - in Saalbach "the cowshed bar with live music, disco arena (both in the Alpine Hotel, Dorfstrasse 212) and King's Disco (Sporthotel Berger, Dorfstrasse 33), or in Hinterglemm there The Glemmerkeller (Glemmtalerlaudstrasse 150), Road King (Dorfstrasse 129) and dance heaven (hotel Knappenhof).
There is so much more, but it's not all high energy stuff. The bar at the Hotel Theresa in Hinterglemm is cool and relaxing with an original Andy Warhol on the wall.
Eat
Saalbach-Hinterglemm has dozens of restaurants, many with excellent Austrian specialties with dumplings, noodles and so on (and, increasingly, moose and wild pigs). The culinary star is the Hotel Theresa (see accommodation below) with his take on modern cuisine in an eclectic setting, even if many others are great. Peter's Restaurant (Oberdorf 177) on the main road Saalbach is famous for its steak cooked on hot stones. Other than that, there are many ski resort stapled.
Getting around
Buses between the two villages are free if your Skipass.
Splash out
Spend an evening on the mountain. One option includes a snowcat ride (you are in a large, open-air container on the back), the growl through the forest to the game Berghaus (website: www.spielberghaus.at). The other is a relaxing sleigh ride through the wilderness to the Lindlingalm (website: www.lindlingalm.at). Both restaurants serve hearty, traditional Austrian specialties in a cozy environment. You return to your sled. But if you snowcat the option you sled down instead.
